Biography

Miriam Teleshevsky was born in January 1984 in Sydney, Australia and was raised in an Orthodox Jewish family. At the age of 8, she and her family moved to Brooklyn, New York and 4 years later Miriam returned to Australia, taking up a more permanent residence in Melbourne.

Sketching, drawing and painting came naturally to Miriam from as early as her toddler years.  Even in her primary years, she focused most of her attention on her love of artwork.  Her world and everything around her needed to be drawn or sketched.  Her art classes would be testimony to her passion for creative design, highlighting her undoubted talents.

In high school, Miriam explored the texture of different mediums.  She created sculptures, mosaics and models using a unique variety of materials including chicken wire, film negatives and glass.

Upon completion of her education, Miriam traveled the world for several years, exploring the culture, life styles and architecture of many different continents.  A major source of her inspiration came from her extended visit to Israel where she was greatly influenced by the eclectic culture of this fierce and vibrant country.   Other great sources of inspiration for her were countries such as Panama, Africa and the USSR where she spent several weeks helping to counsel orphaned and abandoned children whose lives were stricken with poverty and devastation.

At the age of 21, Miriam returned home to Melbourne where she decided to settle for a while.  She spent this time building her portfolio while studying fine art through a series of  short courses. As her portfolio grew to over 30 pieces Miriam went on to make her first exhibition in May 2005. After an overwhelmingly successful first show she  continues to paint and exhibit her work.

To Miriam painting is her true passion in life as she says " I watch the cars go by and I watch the pattern of exterior space move along with them. I love space, empty space, which I can fill with ideas. "Being raised in a religious home, Miriam is drawn to the history and tradition of her Jewish ancestry and heritage.  She expresses this eloquently throughout her artwork, reflecting a past which holds great significance of who she is today.
